Hockey Calgary
Congratulates Dillon Heatherington

What started out as a Skills Testing program run through the Crowchild Association and Hockey Calgary has lead a local athlete to the World Stage and a trip to compete in Quebec City against some of the best Pee Wee's in the World on May 2nd, 2008.
Dillon Heatherington started out competing against his fellow teammates with the Crowchild Blackhawks Pee Wee 1 then went on to comepte at the Hockey Calgary regional challenge before qualifying for the Hockey Alberta Provincial finals and finally the Calgary Flames at the Danone Super Skills Challenge held at the Pengrowth Saddledome January 20th.
“I felt very lucky to have been able to skate with the Flames in their skills competition and now I can’t believe I’m going to Quebec. I’m extremely excited and I really want to do well in the Canadian Skills Challenge,” said Heatherington.
The Pee Wee athletes took part in five on-ice skill tests along with off-ice training. The athletes were tested on: hardest shot, fastest skater, shooting accuracy, agility skate, and transition skate.
“It just shows that when you become involved in a Hockey Calgary development program you never know where it can take you.” said Rob Kinnon, Vice President Development.
The Canadian Skills Challenge is being held in conjunction with the IIHF World Men’s Championships May 2-18, 2008. Each Skills Challenge athlete will be receiving tickets to two Championship games. The athletes which participate in the Canadian Skills Challenge will also have an opportunity to qualify for the International Skills Challenge in Quebec May 3 which will include athletes from 41 nations (IIHF member associations). The Canadian & International Skills Challenges are events that Hockey Canada and the IIHF have committed to yearly.
